I'm between commissions at the moment, so I'm going back to finish up some old practice pieces that I had left unfinished. First on the docket is a set of Persona 5 props that I had originally planned for a Desert Bus donation a few years back, but they weren't taking large items at the time. This is a prop of Ryuji / Skull's starter weapon, basically a metal pipe. The construction is pretty straightforward on this one. It's a PVC segment with a 3d printed top and a bit of epoxy clay where the pipe is supposed to be crushed or warped. This was my first time integrating so much freehand detail on a prop, so it was good practice. 3d printed parts were smoothed using XTC-3d.
I'm also using this as an opportunity to practice some weathering techniques. First order is to scratch parts with a file.
Then I rub in some shoe polish and wipe away the excess.
Grooves were painted with a bit of Alclad II gunmetal to give starker shadows.
Grip tape was applied and then I painted it with some very thinned out Desert Yellow paint I had laying around.
Lastly, I airbrushed on some Alclad II Steel to give a bit of variation or patina look.
The weathering looks way heavier in person, but I like the way it turned out.
