3d Printed Enchanted Rose from Beauty and the Beast
For my girlfriend's birthday this year, I wanted to do something Disney themed. I decided to make the Enchanted Rose from Beauty and the Beast. I looked around online to find a glass dome with a base that would fit the rose and all the electronics. I wasn't able to find any with a topper and room in the base for the microcontroller and wires, so I decided to print those. I painted them in Alclad II pale gold with a black gloss base, giving it a brass look. I modeled the stem and sent it to Shapeways for smooth, colored printing with no support marks. The rose itself was printed in Makerbot Transparent Red filament, and the four petals at the bottom were pulled from a second print of the rose. There are LEDs under each of the petals and one in the main rose. I used an Arduino Gemma to control the lights, and made the fallen petals flicker on and off to show a loss of magic.
