The sphere itself was trivial to design and print. Afterwards, I drilled several holes to guide the EL wire and power for the LEDs. Nine red LEDs, 3 feet of EL wire, two 9v batteries, and a switch later, we have our finished product. I'm holding the two halves together with clear tape for the time being, but I'm going to seal it up with some epoxy or super glue when I take it out for display. The EL wire runs off of an inverter and timer circuit, which gives it a nice electrical flicker. I may consider printing out some clear attachments to the wire to give it a more 'lightning' feel to it, but I like the swirling energy look that it has now. Also, this would make a really neat Rasengan if I switched to blue EL wire and looped it inside the sphere.
